Just Finished Setting Up My Business Website and Social Media, What Is Next?

Recently, I attended an after hours networking reception in my home town to introduce myself and learn about the business community just recently. It was a rather quaint reception with around 100 people. The reception was rather informal and there were business owners from every kind of business.

While interacting with a group of business people, I overheard a conversation from a gentleman as he explained how thrilled he was about completing his website and social media to promote his business.

You could hear the excitement in his voice about having accomplished such a daunting goal all on his own. He told the group of people with him that he had to learn each of the processes which were rather challenging. But, as he stated, "I got it done." I could see how proud he was of his accomplishment.

Someone asked him, "How are you going to have the website and social media updated to ensure that your customers would be continuously engaged?"

His excitement was quickly diminished to one of concern.

The man said "I spent hours setting up my  storefront to promote the business and products online. It never crossed my mind that the information would have to be maintained to keep my customers engaged."

Someone responded, "Do you have the time to update your various media outlets to engage your audience weekly, daily....Are you going to maintain the updates and content yourself?"

The deflated business man was overwhelmed, "How do people do this? I have to run my business...I do not have any time to do this additional work myself. It took a lot of time to just learn and set it up."

Someone that I had been speaking with was quick to introduce me, "Maybe this guy can help."

(I never saw this coming.)

"He just told us that he is a freelance copywriter and was explaining how he helps businesses keep their websites, newsletters, blogs, social media and all that techie stuff current so that customers stay engaged."

(I was somewhat embarrassed as a total stranger put on the spot. But I knew this was what I do best)

So, I quickly told them that as a freelance copywriter,
  • I help businesses make their websites better to reach out to get more customers and increase sales.
  • I provide each business tailored  options based on their marketing and advertising budgets that allows them to build and execute social media with the frequency of engagement that they desire.
  • As a specialist, I forge partnerships with the business owners to focus increasing customers through outreach that engages through postings on social media, website, newsletters.
  • I can gather and research information to help write testimonials, newsletters, blogs and copy that will impact customer response. (in coordination with the business owners and managers)
  • I  assist or manage with outreach campaigns such as open houses, sales, anniversaries that continuously engage customers increasing sales
  • I write copy for blogs or newsletters. If needed, I can maintain, optimize and update copy on to the various communication channels of media outlets (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, website, LinkedIn, WordPress, etc.)
At this point, I looked up and noticed that the entire group had been listening and were completely engaged....

Someone stated, "So, you mean I do not have to do this all by myself.'

"No, You do not. We assist you throughout the entire process if needed. It does not matter how large or small your business is, we are there to help you with your website and any online content you need." I responded.

The gentleman (finally introducing himself as "John" with a firm handshake) whom I had originally been introduced had a look of relief.

"Where are you located  and how do I contact you?" John, continued, "I just do not have time to do that part of my business. I need someone like you who specializes in this area. I can then just focus on my business."

I told all of them that I was there to help them as a committed partner in those areas that are now becoming more challenging regarding content for the web.

I gave each member of the group my business card.
